La Virgen Blanca, a 12th century alabaster image in the Cathedral of Toledo, is beloved by the Spanish people. It reflects well the sweet intimay of the Blessed Mother and Divine Child, Who caresses Our Lady playfully under her chin. Medieval man enjoyed this same tender intimacy with the Mother of God. They turned to her with a childlike confidence, certain that she sould deliver them from evil. The image encourages us to the restoration of the same attitude.
